Monarch Sculpture Park is located in Tenino, WA on the Chehalis Western Trail. The extensive grounds are host to many sculptures and artworks (and peacocks) and is a pleasure to visit. I met the caretakers, John and Ashlea, a few years ago. They have been working hard to restore the park and build on the original vision, and I occasionally lead community projects in an effort to add more artwork while bringing attention to this amazing local resource. A new butterfly maze has been created in the park that will be filled with artwork, so I’ve been leading low-key participatory projects to help with the effort. I recently completed a stepping stone with mosaic made by visitors to Arbutus Folk School during Olympia’s Spring Arts Walk (WA State). A couple of years ago, we made a bench for the park. And currently, I am asking mosaic artists to send mosaic butterflies made on fiberglass mesh to be incorporated into retaining walls and stanchions that will be added to the maze.
