Santa by the Sea is a holiday festival at the Westport Marina on the Washington coast. I’ll be at Stitches: 2601 Westhaven Dr. leading a mosaic project where we’ll make 3″ squares using pre-cut stained glass, but in a quilt-style. These will later become a border for a public art mural in Westport, made through grassroots fundraising, by and for this small community.

The design is based on traditional quilt blocks with a Mariner’s Compass in the center. The squares we make on Saturday, December 7, will border the compass, and twenty 12″ squares will create a larger border around the whole mural, with each one featuring a design related to Westport.

Mock-up of the mural with ideas for design elements. These will change when they are translated to mosaic.

We will be scheduling more events this winter to complete this project with a goal of installing it in the spring or early summer. *There is no budget for this project and no commissioning agent. We are relying on donations and sponsorships to pay for time, materials and installation costs. There is a Go Fund Me for my community projects here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jk-community-mosaic-projects To directly support the Westport Mural, simply mention that in a note when you donate. We will also have a sponsorship program where the center panel and outside squares will be sponsored, and the donor’s name will be listed with the mural, fused onto glass.

Stained glass mosaic suncatcher.

We will also have a raffle for a stained glass mosaic Mariner’s Compass, so be sure to stop by!
