Fall 2026 Mosaic Update

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately, and what’s on the schedule this fall:

I spent August and most of September documenting my process for new instruction, posting the steps on Patreon. I’ll be heading to Santa Barbara in October to film new courses that developed out of this experimentation.

My crew and I removed most of the failing mosaics from the doorway surrounds at the Thurston County Food Bank to prepare for a replacement. Hummingbird studio and I are teaming up to secure funding and host community engagement events beginning with this coming Olympia Arts Walk on October 2 and 3. Find the festival schedule, maps, events and more HERE. During Arts Walk, we’ll make a new mosaic sign to be mounted on the food bank as a way to launch this effort, share information, and fundraise. The next community event will be held at Friendship Hall with hummingbird studio members on November 13 from 11am to 1pm. That’s when we’ll start working on the replacements for the mosaics that were made by Fran Potasnik in 2010. This work is supported by a grant from The Community Foundation and CMA2 (Contemporary Mosaic 2) with additional funding from hummingbird studio. We are accepting donations and welcome partners to help us expand the artwork to other walls of the food bank, and I am seeking support for future projects and mosaic mentorship in order to continue leading community art events, donating artwork to local organizations, and mentoring new artists who otherwise would not be able to afford mosaic instruction.

Meanwhile, I will be starting a new glass-on-glass mosaic commission that will be installed in Olympia, hopefully by winter, if all goes as planned. There are a few other pending projects that haven’t been confirmed yet, so stay posted!
