Here’s me finishing the Rivulations installation, 2021

A couple of years ago, I added private virtual consultations to my shop as a way to help students and fellow mosaic artists as they navigate projects, pricing, business, or design. When someone buys a consultation, we correspond by email first so that I can gather information and send as much visual and written content as I can up front. Then we schedule a facetime or phone meeting to discuss the information in more detail. I’ve even had the pleasure of meeting with a team in person.

The surprise for me has been the utter delight of connecting with some of the names that I’ve seen in my online feed as real people, with real conversations. Inevitably, we go over our scheduled time, we go off on tangents, we get to know each other, we laugh about the unique challenges and foibles of this strange pursuit. When I first started offering this, I saw it as work; something I had to fit into my schedule. Now, I find that I am excited when I get the alert that someone ordered a consultation. I’m always a little bit nervous that I won’t know the answers to their questions, but so far, I have gotten only very positive feedback. It feels like another way of growing the mosaic tribe and the information we are sharing is invaluable. Honestly, these consultations may be more intensive and informative than a workshop because it is one-on-one and customized. Many of the people who hire me are already established and selling their work, but they are maybe applying for their first public art project, or doing their first exterior mosaic, or they want to better understand the methods I use for installations, or just what it’s like to do the kind of work that I do.

It’s a pleasure to share what I can with fellow artists and aspiring artists, and very often, I learn something new as well. If you think this would be a benefit for you, here’s the link in my shop: Private virtual consultation – 1 hour – JKMosaic or Private virtual consultation – 15 minutes – JKMosaic
