My teaching schedule went on hold summer 2020 when everything shifted. I offered some zoom workshops, which was really great, but then my commission schedule went into high gear, leaving no time for anything else. As of 2024, I have managed to teach at a few conferences, which has served as a refreshing reminder of how much I love to connect with my students in person, but I am still not in a position to teach as frequently as I would like.
In the meantime, I have flown to Santa Barbara a few times to film online courses for Mosaic Arts Online, which is a platform that is very professional and well-produced. With a background in television and mosaic, Tami guides the instructors to create online workshops that are clear, both in content and visuals. These courses are designed to make it very easy for students to follow by breaking down the project into steps that are watched one at a time, so you can re-watch and practice before moving to the next step. These courses come with pdfs, templates, and one of mine includes a slideshow presentation. In other words, they are well worth the enrollment fee, and far more affordable than in-person classes. And enrolled students can move through at their own pace and re-watch over and over. If you are interested in mosaic at any level, sign up for free at www.mosaicartsonline.com and watch the intro videos. You’ll find courses on just about every technique and style, taught by the best instructors near and far.
I added personal consultations to my shop. You are welcome to arrange a time before or after purchasing. Also, if you think you need 2 hours, add two of those time slots to your cart. If you need a half hour, choose two 15-minute slots. We can address your specific questions and challenges one-on-one, by phone, zoom, or in my studio if you are local.
The Society of American Mosaic Artists will be holding the American Mosaic Summit in Detroit this September 2024, and my new workshop is officially on the schedule. I’m very excited about this 2-day intensive that will cover my methods for using fiberglass mesh to fabricate mosaic. Here’s the link for all of the details: https://americanmosaics.org/conference/education/jennifer-kuhns/
Also, here is a short video I made about the new workshop: https://youtu.be/PwLMvZJVWmQ
I have launched my Patreon campaign in order to support long-term goals for a mentorship program, more community projects, and to be able to age gracefully with this medium while exploring my creative expression more deeply. My hope is to train assistants to help on large projects, do more collaborating, lead more participatory projects that help heal societal divisions and create infrastructure at my studio where I can lead intensive, small-group workshops and retreats.

I’ve created a subscription model that includes a $30/month level where I will create instructional content about technique, design, business and more. There’s already an online workshop available to subscribers.
I’ve been leading community-engaged mosaic projects since 2012, as my schedule and finances allow. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter (on my home page) to find out about upcoming projects. On Facebook and Instagram, I have an account that focuses on these types of projects: @JK_Community_Mosaic
Volunteering with one of these projects will definitely be a crash course in mosaic-making, so it’s a great way to learn. In addition to projects that are through a public entity or those that I instigate, you can organize a project of your own and hire me to facilitate or consult on it. This can range from an organization creating a small mural together as part of a team-building event to a neighborhood interested in uniting through the creation of a placemaking artwork to an arts group interested in making a community project, but in need of the technical information to make sure the project is installed correctly.
In addition to mosaic, painted murals can be made onto Polytab mural cloth where everyone helps fill in a design in a climate-controlled environment, and the entire mural is then installed on a vertical surface when it’s completed.
