Description
Initially, I was including nippers in the kits for workshops. I’ve decided to create a separate listing for the nippers from now on because many of my students are returners or already have nippers. However, if you are just getting started and need to add nippers to your mosaic kit, just add this to your kit order. (Only for orders that come in a medium flat-rate box.)
These are the most basic glass mosaic tools you can get, the kind you buy at a hardware store. They are solid and heavy with beveled blades that can be turned periodically to keep them sharp. They are a great beginner-level nipper.
As you practice, you may find that you are ready to invest in a higher-quality nipper. The next step up is going to be Leponnits, which you can order online. Find them on almost all of the mosaic supply websites, like WitsEnd Mosaics.https://witsendmosaic.com/mosaic-tools-supplies/mosaic-nippers-cutters/leponitt-g30c-wheeled-nippers-new.html
The next level of nipper is Montolits: https://witsendmosaic.com/mosaic-tools-supplies/mosaic-nippers-cutters/montolit-wheel-nippers.html
And the best wheeled nippers on the market is the Breda: https://witsendmosaic.com/mosaic-tools-supplies/mosaic-nippers-cutters/breda-glass-mosaic-nipper.html
The Breda was designed by a mosaic artist. They are lightweight and ergonomic. The blades are numbered so you can keep track of how many times you’ve turned the wheels. You can read more about them at the above link. I finally invested in these because I’ve developed osteoarthritis, and this is my livelihood. If you are really committed to mosaic, I recommend investing in good tools. But if you are just dabbling, the nippers I have available are a great place to start.
I have run into supply chain issues sourcing these, and have had to buy from different places. Each store carries their own brand, so the photo shown is just an example. I will pretty much be sending out whatever wheeled nippers I can get my hands on!
*No shipping cost is included because I expect to ship these with kits and supplies. If you want to just order the nippers, please contact me so I can invoice you and add the shipping. I can send it in a bubble envelope.
