This project is for the City of Tigard, funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The goals of the artwork included the addition of structure and resting spots along a 3/4-mile trail, along with honoring the history of this place, which was originally home to the Kalapuya, one of the indigenous tribes of the Tualatin region, just south of Portland, OR. The basalt boulders are local to the Willamette and Columbia Rivers and are inlaid with stained glass mosaic that evokes flowing water: the essential element for life in the Pacific NW, then and now. Within the undulating mosaic are some other vital flora and fauna of this area, including Rainbow Trout, White Oak, Camas Flower and local pollinators.
