This is a hand-cut mosaic using a style known as “opus sectile” where the pieces are cut out in whole sections, rather than being made of a lot of small tesserae. It is called “Manifesto” and is a collection of images and symbols that convey an approach to life that embraces and celebrates Nature, color, peace and joy. It is impossible to see the real beauty of a mosaic in a photograph because some of the glass is iridescent, opalescent or mirrored. It changes as you move around it, and as light hits from different angles.

This mosaic is on hardiboard, a heavy-duty tile backerboard, adhered with Laticrete Platinum 254 thinset, and grouted. The mosaic was custom framed by Olympia Framemakers and is ready to hang. It won 3rd place for mosaic at the 2023 Glass Craft and Bead Expo’s Gallery of Excellence in Las Vegas, NV.
