This week I had the pleasure of installing a fireplace surround in an 8th floor condo overlooking Tacoma. I had fabricated the mosaic in my studio ahead of time and was able to transport it in 3 completed sections on mesh. There is a 1/2″ inside edge between the surface and where it meets the fireplace, so I pre-cut glass to cover that edge, giving it a finished look.
This style is very different for me, using glass as large as 3″ x 6″ to create a brick-like pattern, and in a more subtle color scheme. The design was created in close collaboration with the client, who selected the glass in person and was very clear in their vision. While it is more minimalist than my usual designs, I really like it and it fits perfectly in their home.
