The 2019 Society of American Mosaic conference was held in Nashville this year at the end of April, and I taught two day-long versions of my Precision Cutting Stained Glass for Mosaic classes. This is normally a 2-day workshop, which I condensed into one long day (twice) with less focus on creating a project and more on skill-building. I have just a few photos from the conference in the slides attached to this post, most of which are of Karen Rycheck keeping things silly as my assistant in the workshop. I posted a bit more during the week on instagram: @jenn.kuhns.
The conference is Tuesday – Sunday each year, with workshops, seminars, presentations, a mosaic marathon (we create a project for a local nonprofit) and exhibitions of international, contemporary mosaic artwork. It is a lot of fun and incredibly inspiring, and it has pushed me to become a better mosaic artist, introducing me to techniques and methods that have pushed me to new levels with my work. I truly would not be where I am now if not for SAMA and the conferences. The connections I have made with colleagues all over the U.S. and the world have been invaluable and profound. This was a wonderful week and I have returned with new energy and focus.
