I was hired to create these glass-on-glass panels for a local wine bar only a few months after officially launching my business as a commission-based mosaic artist in 2007. With the establishment under construction, we were able to plan ahead to integrate the illuminated mosaic into the design plan. I had glass cut to fit into “windows” above the serving bar, which have lights casting color onto the ceiling, but also allows extra space for storage. Two more panels were inset into a tabletop and are lit from beneath. And there is a large sign outside, also illuminated.
The design style of the wine bar is Art Deco with a whimsical, colorful, modern twist. While my cutting and placing techniques have improved since this project, it is still a favorite because the color, light and integration with the rest of the design is so appealing and fun.
