By learning to cut precise shapes out of stained glass, clear glass and mirror, a mosaic artist can add opus sectile sections to a composition for a different effect.
During this 2-day class, I will address both introduction to glass cutting for beginners and advanced cutting for those with glass cutting experience.
Students will create a glass-on-glass mosaic project while practicing use of a scoring tool and glass pliers. Advanced students will learn to cut curves and precision shapes. Included will be introduction to the ring saw for cutting intricate, concave shapes.
Class fee: $200 (includes materials)
Tools needed: Toyo cutter, breaker-grozier pliers, running pliers. Bring your own or order from instructor by 5/5. (I.M. me for prices or more info.) Optional tools: wheeled nippers, glass file, super-fine steel wool, your own glass if you want select colors/textures.
